The municipality of Frenchboro is made up of 12 islands that are located in Hancock County, Maine. Long Island, which is southwest of Swans Island, is home to the town’s village. Frenchboro has tough hiking paths that start near the working waterfront of Lunt Harbor and lead to magnificent rocky bluffs, secluded beaches, and spectacular vistas of Mount Desert Island.
Frenchboro can be easily accessed via a ferry service. The M/V Captain Henry Lee crosses the 8 miles from Bass Harbor to Frenchboro in just 50 minutes. You can learn more about the ferry at https://www.maine.gov/mdot/ferry/frenchboro/
Visitors can also access the island via private boat charters and personal watercrafts. There are moorings if you want to stay overnight. Staying on the mainland is not easy considering there are no hotels or campgrounds and only a handful of rental homes.
