Cathedral of the Pines

Product Description

The Cathedral of the Pines, a stunning open-air cathedral and gathering space on 236 acres with a panoramic view of the Grand Monadnock. Douglas Sloane III and his wife Sibyl first purchased 12 acres of property two miles northeast of the center of Rindge, NH. They purchased the land with the intention to have each of their 4 children build homes on lots. Sadly, the Sloanes son Sanderson (Sandy) joined the military and was killed in action in 1944. The family decided to use the land as a way to remember all those who served and as a monument to peace and understanding.

It is situated on a hilltop with a panoramic view of the Grand Monadnock. Visitors from all over the world come to the Cathedral of the Pines to take part in events, tour the magnificent sanctuary grounds, contemplate in outdoor chapels and gardens, and learn about history. It is run by a non-profit corporation.

The Mother’s Chapel and the Women’s Memorial Bell Tower are located at the complex’s entrance. The main sanctuary is only a short distance away. The Altar of the Nations, for example, contains stones from every state in the United States as well as from various battlegrounds. The Altar, which has been designated as a national memorial to American military dead, has the best view of Monadnock. Stone is also used for the pews, lectern, pulpit, and stoup. There are around 40 parking places available at the site.
